... who of course wants to translate the beauty of an original artwork in its entirety. The glass element of Richard Rowan’s work is fundamental, and without it much of Richard’s originality and skill is lost to a viewer, but there was no established method to achieve this particular result within the world of fine art printing.
It isn’t easy to picture until you have actually seen one of the paintings, but the image below of the artist at work, gives an idea as to the artist’s original technique. Richard Rowan essentially paints his original image backwards, on the reverse of a piece of safety glass. As a viewer, one looks through the pane of glass and sees the image apparently floating unsupported within the frame.
With a great deal of experimentation, Richard Rowan’s publishers have happily perfected a process whereby the impact of Richard Rowan’s original work can be replicated in the Richard Rowan Limited Edition prints. Essentially, just as with the original paintings, Richard Rowan prints are now printed on glass. The image that is to become a Richard Rowan limited edition print is reversed, screenprinted onto a piece of safety glass, reversed once more and framed. The effect is such that the Richard Rowan Limited Edition print is presented within the frame apparently floating, in a very good approximation of the original work. The beauty, clarity and luminosity of Richard Rowan’s work there to experience.
