Bob Dylan was clearly interested as the answer was yes, but there was a problem. The original work, reproductions of which had been published in the little book, Drawn Blank, had been lost or perhaps just discarded in the intervening years. This did place a large obstacle in the way of an exhibition of Bob Dylan Original paintings, but one which was surmounted in a fantastically ingenious way. The work was essentially recreated anew, and in colour.
The book plates of the Bob Dylan originals from Drawn Blank the little book, were printed much enlarged onto watercolour paper and given back to Bob Dylan to work on. The result was a marvellous collection of Bob Dylan original colour paintings, the first ever seen by his millions of fans. And a collection of original paintings that contained many repeats, rethinks, remixes. Bob Dylan took his original drawings, now enlarged and reprinted many times over, and painted the scenes over and over again, different each time. This beautifully reflects the way in which Bob Dylan works with his music. Each new live playing of a song is a reinterpretation, a reworking, and reimagining of the Bob Dylan original track. It is a tribute to his endlessly creative imagination that each one of the songs, and each one of the original paintings works individually, but also as part of a set. See Train Tracks .
